Penny Johnson Watercolorist

Penny Johnson is an award-winning watercolorist born and raised in Ohio where her desire for art evolved. Since 1996 the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina have been her home and inspiration. She enjoys a variety of subject matter. The favorites include landscapes of the area and portraits, both human and animal. Penny is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and an exhibiting member of the Georgia Watercolor Society. In addition she is a member of the Blue Ridge Watermedia Society, Mountain Arts Assoc., and Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association.

As an artist she captures the essence of her subject and expresses it using the dramatic flow of transparent watercolors. Her fascination with light and shadow and the mood it creates has encouraged her to capture that feeling in her paintings. "If the viewer feels what I felt then I have reached my ultimate goal of expression through watercolors.”
